When small moths are spotted in the kitchen or pantry, this species is very often responsible.<\/p>\n<p>In Gatineau, Val-des-Monts, Cantley, Chelsea, and throughout the Outaouais region, infestations generally begin when a contaminated food product is introduced into the home. Once established, larvae can quickly spread to multiple stored foods.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 40px !important; font-weight: bold !important;\">How to identify an Indian meal moth?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Adult moth<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 20px !important;\">\n<li>Wingspan: approximately 15 to 20 mm;<\/li>\n<li>Front portion of wings: beige or pale grey;<\/li>\n<li>Rear portion of wings: reddish-brown or coppery;<\/li>\n<li>Very distinctive two-toned appearance;<\/li>\n<li>Primarily active in the evening and at night.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Larva<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 20px !important;\">\n<li>Small whitish to cream caterpillar;<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes slightly pink or greenish depending on food;<\/li>\n<li>Brownish head;<\/li>\n<li>Length up to approximately 12 mm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Larvae often produce fine silken webbing inside infested foods.
